The Olympics

Olympic coverage anywhere is parochial -  people want to see familiar competitors and familiar sports...  Here, coverage on NHK is dominated by Judo.  In fact tonight it has only been judo.

I've asked Hiro (a former judo player) about the rules many times. I understand it's all in the shoulders - shoulder touching mat = point, shoulder touching mat more = more points, shoulder completely touching the mat = a complete point.

But I still don't get it.... at all.
ABC Aus. radio is blocked for international listeners....

Just as well my interest is marginal...

Heh. Wait until the synchronized swimming starts! (+_+)

PS: Have you requested a judo demo lesson? ;)

Hiro has challenged me to judo before, but I always get called zurui... It's hard not to cheat when you don't get the rules.
Maybe I should let kinaesthetic learning trump audio learning and get him to demonstrate the various points.
I was quite convinced the Japanese woman had beaten the Korean woman tonight, but not... I still don't get it...

Synchronised swimming and the perpetual moan of the Japanese about having short legs...

I don't get it either!

I tried to tell U about a few of the Canadian athletes and he showed absolutely no interest... Until Iemtioned a Canadian man had won a bronze medal in judo - and he got all excited and congratulated me!

Japan and their judo love, eh?!!

The Canadian judo medal doesn't appear to have links to Japan but he does sound like he's been through a fair bit.
